Watch Together

Musical Statues Game

Help your child hone their listening skills with this fun game. All it takes is a little music and an eager participant or two!

Instructions:

  1. Explain that you will be playing music and when it stops, everyone must freeze and hold as still as statues. If your child is very young or doesn’t know what statues are, take some time to explain and/or look at some pictures to help him understand.

  2. Put on some fun music for your child to move around to. When you press ‘stop,’ remind him to freeze like a statue. Anyone who is still moving once the music stops is out. As people are eliminated from the game, invite them to continue dancing in another area, rather than sit and watch everyone else play.

  3. Repeat for as long as everyone is interested in the game

Plate Dance

Music can come from the most simple of objects- like two plastic or paper plates! Childhood 101 walks you through a Plate Dance activity that allows your child to create her own percussion instrument. There’s even a link to the “Can Can” song for your child to play and dance to!
