Watch Together

In this episode of Jim Henson’s Mother Goose Stories, (Season 1, Episode 2: “The Giant,”) everyone feels nervous when a giant comes to town. After watching, you might ask your child:

  • Why do you think people were afraid of the giant?

  • Was he as scary as people thought?

  • How did the girl help the giant?

  • How did the giant help the girl?

Dress like a “Giant”

What would it feel like to wear a giant’s huge clothes on your small body? Find out with this game! Ask your parents to let you borrow some shoes, an old shirt, a hat, or any other clothing that would be okay for play. Get some help putting on the clothes if you need it, imagining the clothes really belong to a giant. How do the clothes fit on you? Try carefully clomping around in the big shoes, saying your own giant poem!

Big and Small Game

There are plenty of big and small things in nature! Invite your child to find some of them with this simple game. Once you are outside, give her simple instructions like “Stand in front of something that is bigger than you,” or “Find 5 things that are smaller than your shoe.” Afterwards, you can switch roles and have your child give you the instructions.
